Mary White MBE
Mary White was a surgeon who lived with her husband in Bromsgrove. She had a great interest in music and it was under her leadership that the first Bromsgrove Young Musicians' Platform was formed at the beginning of the 1980s as part of the Bromsgrove Festival. Many talented young instrumentalists and singers were attracted to enter. Many of the previous winners and finalists later gained both national and international success.
She sadly became unable to continue in 2013, but under new management her enterprise has continued as a junior competition for those who are living or being educated within a locality from which Bromsgrove is easily accessible.
Mary White was awarded the MBE in 2006 for her services to music and she died in 2017 after a long life devoted to public service. She will be remembered with gratitude and affection by all who knew her and those who now benefit from the Platform she initiated.
